Action Week 30: No Tariff. No Pipeline

Monday Action Week 30:  Contact Governor Baker
Choose the core action, or bring the heat with the second, time sensitive message:

Core message:
“Dear Governor,

I am urgently concerned about climate change. Climate Change is the defining issue on which future generations will judge us. Therefore I urge you to be bold in fighting for real solutions to stop climate change. We look to you for your leadership.”

Time sensitive:
Take 5 minutes to contact Governor Baker’s office and demand that he not allow Massachusetts Department of Public Utilities (DPU) regulation changes that would allow electric utilities to contract directly with gas pipeline companies to buy gas to generate electricity.

Call or write Governor Baker right away. Deadline for comments are Tuesday May 5th!

Your script:
“My name is (name) from (city/town). I am with Mothers Out Front.

Please tell the Governor he must not allow Massachusetts Department of Public Utilities (DPU) regulation changes that would allow electric utilities to contract directly with gas pipeline companies, such as Kinder Morgan and Spectra, to buy gas to generate electricity.

These pipelines are not welcome – we can and must get our electricity from renewables or from existing infrastructure and easy to implement conservation initiatives. The evidence is clear that such pipeline projects endanger our health, safety and the climate. They can explode, leak, and emit harmful greenhouse gas.

I make every effort to reduce my carbon footprint and look to my state leadership to do the same. Thank you.

Sincerely,

With Mothers Out Front- Mobilizing for a Livable Climate

THANK YOU so much for reaching out! Whether or not you voted for the governor, he works for you. Emails, letters, calls- all count equally to elected officials. What counts is your voice: Aides tally up issues and zip codes and report to the governor what voters are saying.

Do you have a moment to do more?

We also say “No Tariff for Pipelines.” Besides not wanting the pipelines, now we electricity users may be asked to pay for the construction of privately owned, for-profit, gas pipelines.

Sample Script:
“My name is (name) from (city/town). I am with Mothers Out Front.

I understand that the governor will soon meet with other New England governors about the gas pipeline tariff. Please let Governor Baker know that:

1.     I do not want the gas pipelines and do not want to pay a tariff to support them.
2.     I object to being asked to subsidize these obsolete & dangerous projects with my hard-earned dollars.
3.     I hope we can rely on Governor Baker to protect our Commonwealth.

Thank you.”
