A Wicked Scary Future Governor Baker

Just 5 weeks to go in our countdown on the UN Climate Summit ‘Road to Paris’.

Today’s Action:  The Future is wicked SCARY unless you act NOW.
Suggested message:
“Dear Governor,
This Halloween we are thinking of something really scary, something that’s not going away unless we all take bold steps NOW:

I am urgently concerned about climate change. This is the defining issue on which future generations will judge us. I urge you to be bold — and help Massachusetts put the brakes on Climate Disruption.

Senator Rosenberg traveled to Washington to hand deliver to FERC our testimony about Kinder Morgan’s proposed pipeline. He asked if the Commonwealth could have a seat at the table during the decision making process. No state has made that request before, but FERC could allow us to participate if you ask.

I urge you to request that Massachusetts be given a formal role as a cooperating agency working with FERC as it reviews Kinder Morgan’s application to build the Tennessee Gas Pipeline. FERC needs to know that we want our utility companies to transition ASAP from the fossil fuel past to the renewable energy future. Building a new pipeline will slow down this critical change. Please help find alternatives to the pipeline.

Massachusetts has been a leader in the battle against climate change. As we approach the climate talks in Paris, we can add to the momentum by going beyond the goals required by the Federal government and even by our own state legislation to lower our own carbon emissions.

Thank you.
Sincerely,
YOUR NAME

1. Check out this fun reverse trick or treat idea and take this Switch Witch Card with you to hand out this Halloween.

2. Join us tonight at 7pm for a break out session at the Climate Action Now monthly meeting at the Northampton UU. We’re launching the Massachusetts Mothers Out Front new three year strategy, which will focus on speeding up the utility companies’ transition from fossil fuels to renewable energy sources. Your ideas are welcome!

3. Here is a link to an editorial in the Daily Hampshire Gazette about Senator Rosenberg’s trip to DC.

Please invite your people to join you in Monday Actions. That’s what makes them powerful.

  1. You are correct if anything we are moving backwards; using millions ( and increasing ) of years of stored energy (Fossil Fuel every year. We need to invest smartly(Infrastructure) using our current resources in order for all our children have better lives ( Some might say any life at all?). I have issues with some of what you think should be pursued. However nice they seem locally; in the Big picture they have issues. We need investment.  a) Electric Cars are very inefficient VS. hydrogen Cars. Liquid Hydrogen (Transportable and stored energy) and can be easily made (with electricity) from water.             Ford’s first prototype Cars in 1910 were Electric. Still expensive and inefficient use of electricity generated by burning fossil fuels. Fossil fuel(and wood) is still, by far, easiest way to obtain energy   b) Net zero makes no sense Your solar panels don’t generate enough power account for line losses.  Power plant generated a lot of power so some would reach you; solar panels don’t generate enough to give any back to the plant. Direct solar use; include passive and upgrade your house for DC. Demand DC products with separate AC to DC converters. Electrically commutated fans and pumps (VS brushless AC fans and pumps).                 Using the grid as backup????? Glad to see offshore wind isn’t totally dead. Wheeling and dealing approach fell apart, (making one individual rich?). However this not what we need . We need a Engineering approach using a Designer and Fabricator of electric generating offshore wind mills. Get L3 ( Kollmorgen submarine Mast designer and builder ) in Northampton Mass to use build offshore windmills. Making islands isn’t too hard. Engineering is applied science in order to meet needs. Treat this as a national defense issue and fund development. Put the industry to work on infrastructure vs. weapons.                   John Boothroyd
