Senator Warren, Please Watch the Dogs at FERC

Today’s Monday Action:  Urge Warren to Watchdog FERC
Dear Senator,
I am urgently concerned about climate change. This is the gravest threat facing us all and future generations depend on us to halt it. I oppose all new fossil fuel infrastructure and want a fair price on carbon. Natural gas is 85% methane, which has 80 times the heat-trapping effect of carbon dioxide in its first 20 years in the atmosphere, meaning small amounts can have a significant impact on global warming. We watch with great approval as you fight tirelessly for our rights with agencies such as the SEC and with Leonard Chanin at the Banking Hearing on Consumer Finance Regulations. We need you to turn your laser beam focus on FERC:

Here in Massachusetts, citizens are concerned about the threat to our environment posed by unnecessary and unwanted pipelines; we are also concerned by the power FERC has to overrule the will of the people. We therefore urgently ask that you call for an evidentiary hearing at FERC, with an administrative law judge, on the fundamental question of whether the NED pipeline is needed. Congressman McGovern has made this request on the FERC docket, CP16-21, as have multiple organizations and municipalities.

FERC’s current modus operandi is leading to the overbuild of natural gas infrastructure, to the detriment of communities and the climate. This 400-mile, five-state project needs a more rigorous review on the threshold question of need before more time and money is invested on siting and environmental reviews.

Thank you for fighting for us and our environment. All the children thank you.

We will have the tools to set up people you know to say “No New Pipelines” directly to their elected officials.

Representative Ellen Story plans to attend to help inspire us!

There will be snacks and time for schmoozing, and plans to follow up!  Bring your friends! Interested in helping with child care/bringing your child? Please contact: AlisaPearson at earthlink dot net.
