Today’s Monday Action: Tell Baker To Protect Otis State Forest and Meet Us In Person.
Remember: Calls and letters count more. That could make this a Tuesday Action.
Happy Fourth of July.
Dear Governor Baker,
I am urgently concerned about climate change. This is the gravest threat facing us all and future generations depend on us to halt it. Therefore I oppose all new fossil fuel infrastructure and want a fair price on carbon. I want to see Massachusetts get 100% of its energy from clean, renewable sources like solar and wind. We owe it to our children and future generations to do everything we can to avoid the worst impacts of global warming. What will your own children’s futures be if we do not act together NOW?
Therefore I oppose building new gas pipelines in Massachusetts including the CT expansion through Otis State Forest which is in violation of our State Constitution. These pipelines would harm local communities and natural landscapes, and keep us hooked on fossil fuels for decades to come. We need you to halt this. You understand modernizing and good business: natural gas is a dinosaur sir; let’s not saddle ourselves with this stone around our collective necks. Fossil fuels are bad business.
We don’t need fossil fuels to power our lives. We can meet 100% of our needs with our abundant renewable energy resources. When can you sit down with us to discuss natural gas expansion, risks to ratepayers, the climate and the environment, and repairing the leaks?
Please support efforts to prohibit spending public money on new gas pipelines, and please do everything in your power to prevent the expansion of fossil fuel infrastructure. Thank you for fighting for us and our environment. The children thank you and we look forward to seeing you soon.

A Celebration of Solidarity with Berkshire Friends and Neighbors
Fighting the Connecticut Expansion Pipeline proposed by Kinder-Morgan to run through the Protected Otis State Forest.
There will be a solidarity rally on the small beach and boat launch off Cold Spring Rd in the Otis Sate Forest. The event includes live music, speakers on the issues, kayaks and canoes, picnic tables (no grills but people can bring their own). This is a marvelous way to get people down in person to experience the beautiful slice of heaven that is Spectacle Pond, which stands as an example of all the land Kinder Morgan would yank out of permanent protection for its own profit. Co-Sponsored by Code Pink, Sugar Shack Alliance, Climate Action Now, and Pioneer Valley Mothers Out Front. See you there!
Thanks for all you do. Onward!
