Intervene to Prevent Another NED

Today’s Monday Action: Ask your State Senator and Representative to hold Berkshire Gas accountable, as this Spanish gas company uses the moratorium in a new attempt to resurrect the “NED” pipeline.Use the information in the sample letter below for contacting your State Senator and Representative.
Dear Senator Rosenberg,
I am urgently concerned about climate change. This is the gravest threat facing us all and future generations depend on us to halt it. Therefore I oppose all new fossil fuel infrastructure and want a fair price on carbon.

I deeply appreciate the role that our local legislators have taken in working towards a clean energy future, and also working to resolve the Berkshire Gas moratorium. I understand that Berkshire Gas recently filed its latest forecast and supply plan with the Department of Public Utilities. I am concerned that Berkshire Gas does not want to resolve its moratorium, but is instead looking to Kinder Morgan for a new massive pipeline project for our region that would undo all of our progress in addressing climate change.

I urge you to intervene directly in this proceeding on behalf of your constituents, to push for real solutions that are better for our climate: creative expansion to energy efficiency programs, fixing the leaks, very rapid replacement of all fossil fuel with solar, wind and hydrogen made with renewable energy for our new cars, as well as targeted changes to Berkshire Gas’ own system, rather than waiting for another disastrous proposal from Kinder Morgan. We can do so much better! We must lead on climate– it’s on us.

Right now, Berkshire Gas is holding all of the cards — the company has the experts, and the statistics, and a sympathetic DPU. Please engage in this proceeding and bring in experts who can advocate on behalf of the communities in the Valley and hold Berkshire Gas accountable in this proceeding.

Thank you so much for all you do. We are counting on you to push for the strongest possible climate solutions –the “leap” that you spoke about recently– and prevent expansion of new fossil fuel infrastructure such as pipelines, new and old.
