Today’s Monday Action: Urge Obama to kill the Dakota Pipeline. He could.
Last spring a social studies class at the Amherst Regional Middle School won the support of the School Committee and Town Meeting to change Columbus Day to Indigenous People’s Day:
So in honor of our children who teach us so well, of Indigenous People’s Day, and of the devastation in brought by hurricane Matthew, we return to standing with Standing Rock and ask Obama to reverse the approval of the Dakota Access Pipeline.
Dear President Obama,
Your remarks in the Rose Garden this week celebrating that enough countries have acted to bring the Paris Agreement into force as ” — a historic step forward in saving the one planet we’ve got” have us back to ask you to cancel the Dakota Pipeline for good.
Like you, we think the trends are terrifying: we are urgently concerned about climate change. This is the gravest threat facing us all and future generations depend on us to halt it. We need a call to action, a nationwide War Effort against Climate Change. You can set the tone for your successor. We must Keep It In the Ground, Sir:
Your administration announced months ago that new projects would now have to pass a climate test before being approved. We need that test applied to the Dakota Access pipeline. And we need to make sure than anything in Indian country never gets built again without full tribal consultation.
President Obama, it’s urgent that you push as hard as you can. We need you. All our children need you. Thank you so much.
