200 Nations, Together

Monday Action 11/7/16: Remember the Paris Climate Accord a year ago, when the world decided to finally act on climate change? We have good news:
The Paris Climate Accord is taking effect faster than we’d dreamed. We are encouraged that our voices are being heard. Today we are back to stop the new pipelines in our own nation, a struggle peacefully led in North Dakota by America’s original Nations:

Today’s Monday Action: Ask Elizabeth Warren (or your Senator) to Shine a Light on injustice at Standing Rock.

Please note: Calls and letters count more. So today, grab a postcard or reach for the phone: Maybe make it personal, mention ages of children dear to you.

Dear Senator Warren,

I am urgently concerned about climate change. This is the gravest threat facing us all and future generations depend on us to halt it. We need to get 100% of our energy from clean sources like solar and wind. We need to keep fossil fuels in the ground- including natural gas.

The Paris Climate Accord is taking effect faster than we had hoped. The USA must do its part to Keep It in the Ground:

Together we will peacefully stop new pipelines: We need you to speak out for the injustices being meted out against the brave protesters at Standing Rock by fossil fuel giants. We need you to sing out that the People’s watchdog, FERC, the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, was founded to protect the People, not to fast track new pipelines, as FERC did again 10/28/16 (to pass by the Indian Point nuclear power plant in NY).

Yet FERC is literally in bed with Fossil Fuel companies (see husband and wife team) while pipeline interests set dogs on peaceful protesters and their children. This must stop– please get out your impressive megaphone for a call to action.

Thank you for bringing your considerable influence to be our climate champions. The children and I thank you.

With Mothers Out Front

  1. Attached my comment to the opening paragraph of the Blog. Energy is but one issue that needs to be resolved in a smart manner. Paris accord is a useless document. No plan; just goals that aren’t going to be met. 350 max carbon, US said we all have stay under, decades back, is over 400 and climbing… We need action….  Yes adding CO^2 increases the amount of atmospheric sunlight changed into heat in the lower parts of the atmosphere. The entire system is much more complex. Flooding, when 70% of the worlds population lives in areas already prone to floods is a forgone conclusion, that is not the rest of the populations problem . Solar PV and the Grid is a giant contributor to solar heating at the surface. Wind lowers the temperature extremes; commercial wind mills require miles of buffer zone and block surface winds. We need to stop being dependent on limited resources. We are consuming resources faster than ever. 1) Increasing population, many wanting more, is the biggest threat. 2) Excessive dependence on limited resources: water, oil, and dirt…Nuclear power isn’t perfect; however it can meet our needs in a relatively clean fashion.. Green/clean solar and wind power doesn’t exist at industrial levels. Not agreeing with the statement below doesn’t mean we aren’t concerned and/or would like to believe. We need practical and real solutions that address the entire complex issue. Drastic Climate change is inevitable, we need to learn how to deal with it. Manmade Climate change to the destruction of all is a likely possibility in the near future. We cannot accommodate all the people. Nuclear power will help…Solar and wind have a place, however it is very small if any, in an Arena containing upwards of 10 billion people. “I am urgently concerned about climate change. Biggest contributor, as stated quite a while ago by the EPA, to Global Warming is General Development. Drain wetlands and when it’s hot out one go from wet to dry bulb temperature; 20 degrees hotter! This keeps the rain away! Free market isn’t going to solve this issue and in fact, as configured is on top of the list of problems. Keep posting; we have real problems. We have no plans on the table and thus march off to “War” or worse “Race Wars”? Solar and wind are not an answer. Ignoring Race isn’t an answer. Nuclear power and understanding of Race are better answers. One should not act against or for individuals based on racial stereotypes. Solution has to address/change societies attitudes desires and needs at the most basic of levels.
