Time for Mama Bear to Speak to the Governor about #Weymouth

Monday Action for the week of 7/10/17.

This week’s Monday Action builds on last week’s call to the Governor’s office. This week we’re asking you to channel that Mother Bear inside you to speak to the Governor, virtually. And remember to scroll down to see what events are happening this week; there’s lots of ways to join in.

Across the state, Mothers Out Front members are taking action over the next 10 days to move Governor Baker away from his support of fossil fuels by focusing all our effort on the proposed Weymouth compressor station.

Key permits from the state are needed to build the station. Those permits are due in August. There’s evidence that the existing industry already is causing violations of MassDEP guidelines for 8 toxic air pollutants. The air quality estimates provided by the pipeline company didn’t take all the existing pollutants into account.

Now is the time to mobilize our power as mothers and others who speak for the next generations.

There’s two actions this week:

Join Mothers Out Front at the State House

If you’re near Boston, join us tomorrow, July 11th, at noon, in front of the State House. Then we’ll line the halls in front of Baker’s office, silently urging him to visit the compressor station site and meet with the community. For more information contact info.ma.pioneervalley@mothersoutfront.org and we’ll put you in touch with the organizers.

Make a Video to share

Here comes the bit about channeling Mama Bear. We’re asking you to speak to the Governor by making your own short video. What should you tell him? First introduce yourself. Tell him why this matters. Whose future are you protecting? Tell him about your loved ones, maybe even have them join you in recording your message. Choose one of these three things to ask him to do:

  • Visit the proposed site and meet with the community.
  • Deny all permits for Weymouth because they violate regulations.
  • Conduct independent air quality testing at the site.

The next step is to join the chorus of voices we’ll create on social media. Post your video on your Facebook page or on ours. In your post, write why you’re doing this and include @MothersOutFront so we’ll find it and can post it. Check our Facebook page for examples of videos and please share them too. This is what social media is great for – echoing an important message.

If you’re not on Facebook or Twitter, you can send us a link to your video and we’ll put it on our Facebook page. (If you don’t know how to send a link to your video, contact us, or ask your teenage granddaughter, for help.)

This isn’t so easy

Yes, we know this is not your typical Monday Action. Feel ridiculous talking to your phone camera? Say so! The truth is that this is one of the things that stands out about the Mothers Out Front message. We’ll do things we never thought we could do because the children we love are depending on us to raise our voices! Wow, that’s really powerful.

If there’s just no way the video is going to happen, here’s last week’s action. You can do it again, but this time write a letter or call if you already emailed.

You are making the changes we need! Thank you for your effort. Please share Monday Actions with friends.

See you next Monday.
