Reps, Sign On to Carbon Pricing by 7/27!

Monday Action for the Week of 7/24/17: Contact state reps and write to committee chairs to support three bills that will lead to a fair price on carbon and a clean energy economy for future generations.

[Last week you used our new website, Light Up the Map. Did you see your light on the map? If not, please select the action again and SAVE so we can see everyone who is taking actions.]

1. If you’ve already asked your State Rep to sign the letter in support of the Massachusetts carbon pricing bills, we need your help to get lots of people in other districts to ask their Reps to sign on by July 27th. If you haven’t asked your Rep, ask them to do so right away. Here is the letter we’re asking them to sign and a list of who has signed that we’ll update.

Read about the Carbon Pricing bills at Light Up the Map, make your call or send an email, click SAVE to confirm that you did it and then, Voila!, you’ve added another light to the map on the site. Please send the link to people you know elsewhere in the state. Explain why you took this action and how important it is to get their state Rep to sign on.

2. Please submit written testimony in support of Rep Solomon Goldstein-Rose‘s billH.3473, An Act relative to creating energy jobs.

The bill aims to make it easier for companies to develop clean energy technologies, which will stimulate investment, growth and new jobs. A carbon fee and dividend is one of 5 parts of this bill. Read more here.

Submit your written testimony for H.3473 by writing to the Chairs of the Joint Committee on Economic Development and Emerging Technologies:
Senator Eric Lesser:
Representative Joseph Wagner:

Your testimony can be very simple. Tell them you care about climate change and why. Say that you support Representative Goldstein-Rose’s bill H.3473. Here is a sample letter. Or write your own:

  • Mention that clean energy, storage and carbon pricing are all necessary to make our economy strong, grow jobs, and keep our energy dollars in state.
  • The bill does all this without appropriating any money, rather creates affordable financing, attracts private battery development with tax incentives, and has a revenue neutral carbon fee and dividend.

You are making the changes we need! Thank you for your effort. Please share Monday Actions with friends.

See you next Monday.
