All I Want For #MothersDay is the #ParisAgreement

This week’s Monday Action, brought to you a day early for Mothers Day from Pioneer Valley, MA Mothers Out Front: Ask Ivanka to tell her father that All We Want For Mothers Day is the Paris Agreement.

Two years ago we began Monday Actions as a weekly countdown to the Paris Climate talks. Then we celebrated what seemed to be international progress against the threat of climate change after Paris. Now, with a new administration in Washington D.C. we are in danger of pulling out of this critically important agreement.

If the world’s leaders fulfill the commitments made in Paris, our children have a chance at a healthy livable climate tomorrow.

Today, on Mothers Day and all week, we are writing, posting and Tweeting to Ivanka Trump urging her to advise the President to stay the course on the Paris Climate Agreement. Feel free to use the sample letter below or edit it in your own voice!

Dear Ivanka Trump:

As a fellow mother I think that you will understand why I am urgently concerned about climate change. Our children depend on us to do whatever we can to fight for a livable future for them.

The U.S. must remain a strong member of the Paris Climate Agreement in order for other countries to follow and reduce the use of fossil fuels and their emissions. For our children’s sake, we must remain true to the agreement that was made in 2015.

So much depends on U.S. leadership on this critical issue. If we invest in clean, renewable energy we’ll combat climate change and our economy will thrive.

Now is the time to strengthen these agreements so that all children can have a healthy environment today and a livable climate tomorrow.

Thank you for caring and speaking for the children of the world. Be their hero and their hope.

Senator Markey, We Can’t Wait

Monday Action for week of 1/30/17:

Do you hear the ROAR? That’s the full-throated growl of millions of Mother Bears saying “We will do anything to defend all that’s precious to us.” And we’re not going to wait for the next generation to grow up. It’s our responsibility and we need to solve it NOW.

Let’s focus that outrage on Scott Pruit, an outrageous nominee for the Environmental Protection Agency.

You can use the sample talking points or copy-and-paste the text below. But Senator Rosenberg suggested at Saturday’s climate forum (attended by 750 people!), that personalizing your message makes it count a lot more. Better yet, call if you can.

Dear Senator Markey,

I am urgently concerned about climate change. This is the defining issue which future generations depend on us to solve. I commend you for being bold in fighting climate change and promoting clean energy for the health and safety of all our children.

Thank you for introducing the resolution for 100% clean electricity by 2050. Yet, it seems that every week, new research finds that climate change is advancing more quickly than scientists had predicted. Any movement towards 100% renewables is welcome, but it’s become clear that we need to move much more quickly than we previously thought: 2050 is too late!

To avoid the worst scenario, we need to achieve 100% clean energy by 2035 as proposed in new legislation filed in Massachusetts.

The election of a president hostile to clean energy and pushing fossil fuels means that we are losing precious time to halt climate change. His choice of Pruitt to head the EPA is a move in the opposite direction. We, and the children we protect, no longer have time for missteps. I urge you to vote “no” on Pruitt’s nomination. Our children’s future depends on our leaders making the right choices NOW. Before they grow up.

Don’t Fight Climate Change Alone

Monday 11/14. The better climate candidate lost, and suddenly we face both tremendous danger and tremendous opportunity.
You’ll see two offerings to inspire you this week. The first one might be mostly for you, Dear Monday Actionist.

Today’s Monday Action: Write to President-Elect Trump
Please note: 1) Donald Trump does not use a computer. 2) We have a feel-good, click extra to Obama below. 3) Listed here too are lots of in-person events for you this week. You are not alone with this work.
Thank you, President-Elect Trump,
Your clarity woke me up. I am changed. From now on, every time I worry about climate change I will ask myself:

“What am I doing to save the world I love?” Then I’ll ask myself: “What more can I do to save the world I love?”

Then I will act.
This fills me with a great new hope, because
This, I can do.
And I know I am not alone.

I daresay most of us love this beautifully functioning, temperate world and do not want it to go off the rails –including you, you sly fox.

With Mothers Out Front

Dear President Elect Trump,
I was heartened by your acceptance speech when you said you would be president for all of us in the country. In that vein, I implore you to keep the Paris Climate Agreement. It represents the world coming together to protect what we all have in common. We have a limited time to protect the earth from irreversible damage. No country can do this alone. THERE IS NO PLANET B.

You are in a unique position. You are not beholden to special interests, like the fossil fuel industry. You can help prevent some of the problems that are becoming more and more evident as the earth warms, like flooding, droughts, new diseases, more and more displaced persons and more refugees.

Again, I implore you for the sake of our children and future generations to work with other world leaders to protect the earth.
Thank you.
